Bruges has a great mill history. On a citymap publicated in 1865 we can see 21 mills around the city. One of those mills was build on the exact location of our Bed and Breakfast. The mill called "De Hoogmolen" was a wooden corn windmill build in 1298. The mill had different owners untill the city of Bruges bought the mill in 1875 for 900 Belgian franc (22 euro). The city bought the mill together with 181 other properties to complete a masterplan to upgrade the Bouverie quarter. The mill was eventually demolished in 1878 to build a new boulevard, the Hendrik Consciencelaan. After the construction of the boulevard, new houses were build in the Hendrik Consciencelaan.
